What does Dr. Hallam say about Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are a very versatile treatment that contains a synthetically produced version of the naturally occurring substance hyaluronic acid. Dermal fillers integrate with the facial tissue well and can be used to lift the face, particularly the cheeks and the temples. If a non-surgical facelift is required, either Dermal Fillers or Sculptra can be used to provide an excellent result.

I use Juvederm and Restylane which both have a long safety record.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are a common treatment for correcting wrinkles and folds as well as correcting loss of facial volume. Hyaluronic acid binds to water and can soften and hydrate the skin as well as add volume to it when injected. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in humans and animals. Dermal fillers are sterile non-animal based versions of hyaluronic acid that are synthetically produced. Hyaluronic acid has largely replaced the animal based collagen that can cause allergic reactions.

How do Dermal Fillers work?

Dermal fillers injected under folds and wrinkles will plump them up causing them to become less apparent and resulting in a smoother and more youthful looking skin. Dermal fillers are also effective in plumping up the lips and lifting the corners of the mouth.

How are Dermal Fillers administered?

Dermal fillers are a gel like substance that is injected directly into the skin using micro-needles. A topical aesthetic can be administered prior to injecting the fillers in order to make the procedure more comfortable. The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes and most people are able to resume their daily activities immediately after receiving a dermal filler treatment.

Which areas can be treated with Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers can be used to:

bullet   Correct fine lines, creases and folds in the face
bullet   Enhance lips
bullet   Reconstruct noses and chins
bullet   Contouring cheeks

How safe are Dermal Fillers?

As Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in humans and animals, allergic reactions to the treatment are rare. There may be mild to moderate swelling after the treatment, especially in the lips but this usually goes away within couple of days.

How long do Dermal Fillers last for?

Dermal fillers usually give instant results that will last for between 6 and 12 months and can be topped up when their effects start to diminish.

In order to get the best results after a treatment with Dermal Fillers, the following guidelines should be followed:
bullet   Avoid touching the treated area for at least 6 hours.
bullet   Do not apply make-up to the treated area for 6 hours.
bullet   Consuming alcohol in the first 24 hours will cause more swelling.
bullet   Avoid exercise for the first 24 hours after the treatment.
